FAQ
Everything you need to know before you shoot.
Compatibility
Yes — the presets come as XMP files, which are compatible with both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom (desktop). They also sync to Lightroom mobile automatically once imported into the desktop app via Adobe's cloud sync.
One important note: these presets are designed for RAW files. They'll technically apply to JPEGs, but the results won't be as accurate — RAW gives the preset full dynamic range to work with, which is what the looks are built and tested on.
The presets are delivered as XMP files, which is the standard format for Lightroom presets. Some other apps may be able to import them, but results outside of Lightroom are not guaranteed and we haven't tested every workflow.
For the best results, we recommend Adobe Lightroom Classic or Lightroom desktop.
No. Capture One uses its own styles format (.costyle) which is not compatible with XMP presets. These presets are built specifically for Adobe Lightroom and won't import into Capture One.
Yes, via the Lightroom mobile app (available on both Android and iOS). The easiest way to get them onto your phone is to import the presets into Lightroom on your desktop first — they'll sync to your mobile app automatically through Adobe's cloud.
You can also import XMP files directly into Lightroom mobile, though the process varies slightly by device. Either way, once they're in, they work exactly the same as on desktop.
Using the presets
No — and that's by design. Film stocks have character. A pushed Kodak 400 behaves very differently to a Fuji 200 in flat light, and these presets are built to reflect that. Not every look will suit every scene, and that's part of what makes them feel like real film rather than a generic filter.
Think of it the same way you'd choose a film stock before you shoot: you pick the one that fits the light, the mood, the subject. With 15 presets across colour and black & white, you'll find the right starting point — and from there, a small exposure or white balance tweak is usually all it takes to dial it in.
The presets are tuned to work across a range of lighting conditions, not just golden hour. But no preset in the world is a one-click fix for a badly exposed shot. Get the RAW right, and these will do the rest.
Sometimes, yes — and that's normal. Every camera sensor renders light slightly differently, so exposure, white balance, or tint may need a small nudge depending on your camera and the conditions you shot in.
The presets are designed to get you 90% of the way there. Treat them as a strong starting point, not a finished edit — a few seconds of fine-tuning is usually all it takes.
